I've added a "floating" header to the top of every page to facilitate easier navigation of my site. If you have any suggestions of how I can make it — or any page/aspect of this website — better, go ahead and send them here. (Note: you need JavaScript enabled for it to work correctly, so keep that in mind. I've also attempted to fix a couple problems IE has w/ my site, but it hasn't yielded much fruit. Use Firefox, Chrome or Safari. Or Opera. Or Netscape or Flock or Iceweasel or Konqueror or Seamonkey or ANYTHING other than IE.)

Updates:

27 No-Shave-November 2012

That's right, it's No-Shave-November, and I'm updating the website. This has been taking me about a month to get done and rolled out, and I know it doesn't sound like much, but it was hella painful. Good news: everything is much more CSS-centric now, so if I want more full-site revisions, it will be much quicker and less painful.

Changes I made: I widened it to 900px instead of 700 (it was far too narrow for FAR too long). Anyway, I also changed the background of the home page to match the rest of the site, and lightened its color to make everything easier to read. With the change of the background of the front page, I widened the "Updates" section on the left so it's not a tiny column on the left half of the page. I also slid up the floating navigation banner, so now all the shows at the top of the page are only the buttons necessary for navigation. Oh, and I used some of the most basic functions of JavaScript (much like w/ the floating header) to check which column is taller, change the height of the parent DIV to match, and then throw the footer Creative Commons stuff to the bottom of the same container. I don't think you understand exactly how PLEASED I am w/ that functionality. And what's more is it's VERY simple. I think I'm more proud of that than I am of the overall functionality. Browse around the site and tell me if'n you see any problems.

One thing that has been keeping me from making updates to the website/blog/etc is it's still kind of a clunky process. What I want to do is set up some macros or maybe an ActiveX control of something that I can apply to a body of text, and it will be spit out as a blog-post, or a new page in the Writings or Bounds of Freedom section, complete w/ updates to the home page and the respective table of contents for whatever portion of the site to which it gets posted. Also I'm one or two major site rev's away from adding expandable tree-style menus for the blog, the writings, and Bounds of Freedom. So you can look forward to that...sometime around 2015.

I don't wanna talk about BoF! Leave me alone!!

29 February 2012

So...long time, no see. Woops.
I'm redoing — for the FINAL final time — Bounds of Freedom. Mostly, it's starting differently and the focus is switching laterally. Otherwise, all the words that have currently been written will be included in the final "release" so the current word count is, somewhat accurate.

Also, I'm undertaking a side project — that isn't much of a project at all — as a way to step away from BoF when I need to w/o stepping away from writing completely.

Also, I've starting outlining another project; this one, however, is a web-based RPG written mostly w/ JavaScript and PHP that takes place in the same world as the two Glimpses Dungeon and Prophecy. It's going to take...years.
Also, this.

30 June 2011

I make no excuses for my April/May/June failures, nor do I make any promises for the future. I have let you all (and by "you all," I am, of course, referring only to myself, which makes this both simple to say, and excruciatingly dificult) down. I'm sorry.

Does a podcast episode help make up for it?

07 June 2011

Ahh, bugger. I've been a bit of a twit, and I didn't write 20,000 words in May. I didn't even write 20 words in May. Well, that's probably not true. I wrote SOME words in May, and the total number of words MIGHT have actually exceeded 20, perhaps even two-dozen. But I'm not going to report it. I'm just going to go for the straight 50k in June, as promised. If lucky, I may even approach 70k words for the month, and make up for April and May, but don't count on it. I will do my best to hit the 50k, though, so I may actually finish book one this summer.

21 May 2011

Probably not going to get 20,000 words in May. I'm just saying.

Episode of Thoughts From... has dropped; just thought I'd let you know.

03 May 2011

I've added a "floating" header to the top of every page to facilitate easier navigation of my site, but it's not a super-great implementation. If you have any suggestions of how I can make it — or any page/aspect of this website — better, go ahead and send them here.

And I didn't want to say this, but I didn't write ANYTHING in April. I didn't even so much as outline a future episode of Thoughts From... although I was ready to record one on Sunday, after hearing the news about OBL (Osama Bin Laden) — that's right, I'm so awesome that I will abbreviate someones name, then take MORE time explain what it is I'm doing — but, unfortunately, I didn't. *Sigh* I will be so happy when I'm done w/ school.

Anyway, finals are done, and I'm ready to write 20k words (that's right, 20,000 words, double my monthly goal) this month to make up for April. We'll see...

13 April 2011

Yeah, I still haven't written anything yet for the month. There may be TWO light months while building up to my own personal NaNoWriMo, but we'll see what happens.

To show I haven't been COMPLETELY lazy, I invite you all over to my new home! Yes, the wife and I finally closed on our home, and, after the painting, electricianing and plumbering is done, we're gonna throw one helluva party! With four different types of barbeque!! INCLUDING RIBS (if I buy a new grill before then)!! So there's that.

Oh, and a podcast. Enjoy!

01 April 2011

Progress is progress until no more is made. And that's tragic, and embarassing. I wasn't able to write anything the second-half of the month, so that 2600+ words is going to have to do it for March. Oh, well. April will be better. I'm not buying a house this month, nor am I buying a house while trying to study for midterms (just finals. That's all; at least I'm not buying a house at the same time). I'm getting some great ideas for some minor battles between factions, so those of you "familiar" with the story that have been wondering at all the new characters, yeah, they're pretty much just there to be killed. It's gonna be great.

It's my longest blog-post ever, a critical analysis of TRON: Legacy. It doesn't EXACTLY fit as a blog post; it probably should be posted to my writing section. But I don't care enough to change it.

An Offer to You, the Readers!
NaNoWriMo may pass me by — again — but this year there's a glimmer of light. Again. Wow, this year is eerily similar to last year. I hope next year, I won't be sitting here, typing the same damn words. Again...

There is nothing I can say about Hawk the Slayer except that it stars Jack Palance and — if you're a fan of Lost — Christian Shepard. (You can't tell, but I'm making the MindSword sound effects in my mind right now...)
